Jumbo shrimp, as the name implies, is remarkably larger than the average shrimp. Typically weighing 16-20 shrimp per pound, it is a crustacean that is so versatile you can pair them with everything. You can grill, fry or boil it. It also goes well with many dishes, such as pasta, paella, skewered kabobs, stews, soups and salads.

How to cook jumbo shrimp

Cooking jumbo shrimp is very easy and it takes only a few minutes. Take a look at the following steps, according to Food Network:

  • Boil a pot of salted water. You can add a tablespoon or two of lemon juice for flavour and firming the flesh but it is optional.
  • Add the shrimp and let it cook until bright pink and the flesh is opaque (white) all the way through. This usually takes about 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Drain out the water from the shrimp using a colander or sieve. Allow it to cool under running cold water or you can eat it warm. Drain it again and pat dry. You can peel the skin if necessary.

Note that jumbo shrimp, like other shrimps, cooks very easily. So, it tends to be overcooked, a mistake you should avoid as much as possible. Check the shrimp every minute or so whenever it is cooking.
