Celebrity footballers are known for courting controversies. Rape allegations are common among these footballers. One of the most trending allegations is the Partey rape. If you are a fan of football, you do not need to be told who is being accused of rape. Yes, it is Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international, Thomas Partey.
The former Atletico Madrid player was in the news for the wrong reasons in 2022. Two of his ex-girlfriends took to their social media handles to accuse the 29-year-old of rape. However, none of the rape accusations held any water as the footballer got away scot-free.
But questions remain about whether he committed the crime. While speculations are still ongoing, let us recount what happened in the Partey rape case.
What is the Partey rape?
The Partey rape refers to rape allegations against Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, in 2022. On July 2022, a young lady, who claimed to be Partey’s ex-girlfriend, had accused him of raping her during their trip to Ibiza, an island in Spain. The lady, who goes by the username on Twitter, DEFFONOTCHAUR, tweeted:
“Thomas partey is an ADMITTED rapist. No woman can accuse you of raping her and your response is this???? He raped me, left me in bed unconscious then went out to party in Ibiza, came back, laughed in my face and told me I don’t get to say no to him. Not once said I was lying.”
According to the unidentified woman, she and Partey were dating before the incident. She reportedly tried to break up with him before he convinced her that he was going to change.

‘We were dating, he asked me to travel with him for his birthday after I tried to end things with him a few weeks prior. He convinced me that he had booked the trip for us and that he was going to change. I fell for it.’ she claimed.
Sharing screenshots to confirm that they were indeed in a relationship, the lady claimed she tried to resolve the Ibiza issue with the footballer. She revealed she told her friend and sent text messages to her ex. But the Arsenal player was out partying and tried to shut down the conversation. Confirming the incident happened months before her stunning revelation, the lady admitted to being paid off to keep quiet about it but she chose to open up because she was yet to receive justice from the police to whom she had reported the incident months ago.
In addition, the lady claimed that she had to move out of her parent’s house because they were Arsenal fans and she could not bear to hear her stepfather cheer the Ghanaian player.
“My family are Arsenal supporters, I had to move out of the home I lived in my entire life because I couldn’t bear to hear my stepdad cheering for him in matches… or being afraid to leave my room incase I hear his name mentioned on a podcast.”
“I have nothing to love for now, nothing to fight for. The entire time I was being “brave” was for absolutely fucking nothing…
“I suffer from severe PTSD and have been on sedatives for the last year to deal with the night terrors, panic attacks and flashbacks I face daily,” she wrote.

Who made the Partey rape allegations?
It is alleged that DEFFONOTCHAUR began the Partey rape allegations. However, there were two women involved in the case. One case allegedly happened in April 2021 while the other happened in June 2021. While one of the accusers remains unknown to date, the other woman who accused Partey of rape was his ex-girlfriend, Sara Bella.
Sara Bella is a Moroccan model who has been rumoured to be dating the Arsenal midfielder. She had relocated to the United Kingdom to further her studies where she met Partey. Their relationship went smoothly until things went downhill when he backed out of marrying her. Following the jilting, Sara allegedly tried to blackmail the Ghana international by accusing him of rape. Partey, who had allegedly spent about £700,000 on the same woman, was reportedly shocked at the development. Reports also claimed that he had converted from Christianity to Islam and changed his name to Yakubu because of his Moroccan girlfriend.
What happened to Partey?
According to Sky Sports, Partey was arrested by the UK Metropolitan Police. The UK news outlet noted in its report that the Premier League player, who could not be named at the time, was detained by police on July 4, 2022, at an address in Barnet, north London. The 29-year-old was later revealed to be Partey, who was later released and rearrested when two different women came up with fresh rape allegations.
However, Partey was later released on bail, which was eventually extended until October 2022 while investigations continued.
How was the Partey rape case concluded?
According to an update by football. London, which was last made on October 3, 2022, the Metropolitan Police had confirmed the footballer was no longer being investigated for one of the three alleged offences. The publication quoted a statement by the spokesperson for the police, who said:
“On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police.
“It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.
“While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s.
