In 2009, rumours began to swirl that Michelle Obama, the then United States of America’s First Lady, Michelle Obama, was pregnant with her third child. At the time, the rumours spread so much that many believed and even hoped that Obama would have a boy to add to the girls she already had with her husband.

Therefore, this article will discuss the pregnancy rumours and how it began.

According to a report by the Times of India, media reports in Britain said it was believed that Michelle Obama was pregnant with her third child. The then 45-year-old, who shares two daughters with America’s first black president, Barack Obama, was reported to soon give birth to a “White House baby”, barely two weeks after her husband’s inauguration.

Although both Michelle and Barack Obama have clearly stated in the past that they had no intention of having more children, the White House reportedly did nothing to quell the rumours.

An insider was quoted saying: “Anything can be done to hide these sorts of rumours, and Barack and Michelle would not have wanted anything to detract from the importance of the inauguration day.

“Their advisers will have been kept up to speed, and there may be some announcement in the very near future.”

On November 13, 2018, the former First Lady published a memoir in which she shared a deeply personal account of her marriage to the former U.S. President and the family they built together. She dropped a bombshell about her pregnancy journey, revealing that she had her daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama, via in vitro fertilization, popularly known as IVF.

According to Obama, she felt “lost and alone” after suffering a miscarriage over 20 years ago and had to go through IVF to conceive her daughters.

“We were trying to get pregnant, and it wasn’t going well,” Mrs. Obama wrote in her memoir. “We had one pregnancy test come back positive, which caused us both to forget every worry and swoon with joy, but a couple of weeks later, I had a miscarriage, which left me physically uncomfortable and cratered any optimism we felt.”

IVF is a form of assisted reproduction which typically involves removing eggs from a woman, fertilizing them with sperm in a lab and implanting a resulting embryo into the woman’s uterus. The procedure costs thousands of dollars for every “cycle”, and many couples require more than one attempt.

“I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them,” the former first lady said in an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America. “We sit in our pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”
