Baba Ijebu: Why it is the cynosure of lotto gamers in Nigeria

If you live or lived around boys or men in southern Nigeria, particularly the South-West region, you must have heard comments such as this: “Omo, I wan go under the bridge to check Baba Ijebu’s shop”. Such a comment is quite familiar. Virtually every person in that region virtually knows a Baba Ijebu kiosk, whether they actively participate in the scheme or not.

Baba Ijebu is the colloquial name of a gaming organisation known as Premier Lotto Limited. Registered in 2001, it allows Nigerians to partake in lotto services, bookmaking, betting and online casino games. The company was founded by Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu, a prominent businessman and a gaming mogul. He currently serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and is fondly referred to by the name.

Baba Ijebu is the oldest known Nigerian lotto game company in Nigeria. Over 20 different lotto games, including Diamond, Peoples, Bingo, MSP, Metro, International, Gold, 06, Jackpot, Lucky G, Clubmaster, Super, Tota, Mark 2, Vag, Enugu, Midweek, Fairchance, Fortune, Royal, Bonanza, King, National, and Lucky, are available at Baba Ijebu.

The popularity of Baba Ijebu extends beyond the South-West region to other southern states in Nigeria. It is patronised by people as young as 16 years old and as old as 70 years old. Despite being known as a game of popularity or chance, many Nigerians visit the various kiosks of Baba Ijebu scattered across the country daily to know whether “luck” has shone on them.

Before the emergence of online betting websites, it was the preferred betting platform of the majority of gamers. Currently, it is the choice of the middle age and elderly people, while some young folks are also key advocates of this gaming system.

How to play Baba Ijebu

How to play baba Ijebu

There are two ways to play Baba Ijebu, either offline or online. The game consists of numbers from one (1) to ninety (90), with five (5) winning numbers drawn randomly for every game. To win a match, all you have to do is to predict at least two (2) of the winning numbers.

There are several ways of playing the game. The different ways are permutations, 2 sure, 3 direct, 4 direct and 5 direct.

Below are detailed explanations of these methods.

Permutation

This allows you to predict up to 10 numbers and if two (2) out of your 10  predicted numbers come out in the results, you will be among the winners.

2 Sure

This is the most popular way to play Baba Ijebu since your chances of winning more money with fewer risks are better. The minimum winnings on Nap2 are N24,000 because winnings are computed as 240 stake (minimum of N100). To be published, however, the two numbers the player chooses must be among the five winners. If only one number pops up, such a player will not get paid.

Direct 3 (Nap3)

Like the other games, Nap3 requires a minimum wager of N100 and allows players to select three random numbers from one (1) to ninety (90). The wins for Nap3 are computed as 2,100100, which means that the lowest prize is N210,000.

Direct 4 (Nap4)

The player must correctly predict four (4) out of the five (5) winning numbers to play Nap4. You can withdraw N1.2 million with a minimum stake of N200. The multiplier for your stake is N6,000.

Direct 5 (Nap5)

Due to the low likelihood of winning, this game is the least popular on Baba Ijebu. The player must properly estimate the five winning numbers that will be announced to play Nap5. A minimum of N100 is required to become a multi-millionaire. Your winnings are calculated as 44,000×stake.

“Baba Ijebu pay me my money” is the exact meaning of the phrase: “Baba Ijebu pay me my dough”. In the remark, the dough stands for money.
