Wuthering Waves characters: Get to know all 23 characters of the open world gacha game

Wuthering Waves is a free-to-play action role-playing game developed and published by Kuro Games. Released on May 22, 2024, the game was an instant hit, gaining over 30 million pre-registered users from over 100 regions. The success of this open-world gacha game was partly due to the Wuthering Waves characters in a genre that is often compared to Genshin Impact.

Set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world, the story begins after the Lament wiped out most of humanity and caused unknown beings and monsters, called Tacet Discords, to appear. Humans have managed to adapt and even rebuild civilisation.

To play the game, you must control the protagonist Rover and recruit allies called Resonators, split into four-star and five-star rarities. These characters have to be controlled in a series of combat challenges. The combat system features Intro (triggered when a character enters combat) and Outro (triggered when the character leaves combat) skills.

Also, the gacha system features banners known as Convenes, where Resonators and Weapons can be obtained. The Convenes come in three types – novice, event and standard. Additionally, a pity system guarantees that five-star items are received within a set amount of pulls.

Meanwhile, Wuthering Waves characters may equip Echoes, briefly granting them abilities which summon or transform characters into monsters.

Rover

Rover Build is the protagonist and a five-star Spectro character who uses a sword during the fight. Awakened with a mysterious history, he sets forth on a quest to unveil the hidden truths and regain lost memories.

Jianxin

Jianxin is a five-star Aero character who uses the gauntlet during the fight. Born amidst the untamed realm and nurtured within the confines of a Taoist community, she has been gifted with the wisdom of Fengyiquan, a formidable martial art.

Changli

Changli is a five-star Fusion character who uses a sword during the fight. She also uses the Resonance Skill, Intro Skill, Ground Basic Attack 4, or Mid-air Basic Attack 4, Changli enters a state called True Sight.

Jiyan

Jiyan is a Five-Star Aero character who uses Broadblade during the fight. A Midnight Rangers’ commander, Jiyan is a man of righteous and resolute heart. He can bend the slightest breeze into the sharpest lance.

Jinhsin

Jinhsi is a five-star Spectro character and uses Broadblade during the fight. She uses her skill to enter the ‘Incarnation’ state. The fourth enhanced Basic Attack during this state grants her ‘Ordination Glow’.

Lingyang

Lingyang is a five-star Glacio character and uses a gauntlet during the fight. A genuine and empathetic outsider in the human community, he is part of the permanent five-star who gains a significant Glacio damage bonus after activating Resonance Liberation.

Calcharo

Calcharo is a five-star-electro character and uses Broadblade during the fight. As the head of the renowned “Ghost Hounds,” a mercenary organisation spanning across borders, he commands authority with an iron fist.

Yuanwu

Yuanwu is a four-star electro character and uses a gauntlet during the fight. He is the owner of a boxing gym, known for being a courteous and humble man who exudes poise and self-assurance in everything he does.

Taoqi

Taoqi is a four-star Havoc character and uses Broadblade during the fight. She is in charge of border defence in Jinzhou at the Ministry of Development.

Sanhua

Sanhua is a four-star Glacio character and uses a sword during the fight. Calm and calculated, she has the special ability, known as Forte, which she uses to lower the ambient temperature and summon snow.

Mortefi

Mortefi is a four-star Fusion character who is the head of the Branch of Tacetite Weaponry within the Department of Safety at Huaxu Academy in Jinzhou.

Verina

Verina is a five-star Spectro character who uses a rectifier during the fight. Once part of an expedition team representing the New Federation’s Pioneer Association, she is now a modest and resolute plant breeder.

Danjin

Danjin is a four-star Havoc character who uses a sword during the fight. A ranger of unwavering integrity, Danjin possesses a resolute moral compass.

Chixia

Chixia is a four-star Fusion character and uses a pistol during the fight. She is an energetic Jinzhou Patroller Resonator known for her helpful, heroic nature.

Baizhi

Baizhi is a four-star Glacio character and uses a rectifier during the fight. A renowned scholar at Huaxu Academy, she is highly regarded for her sharp intellect and meticulous approach to research.

Yinlin

Yinlin is a five-star Electro character and uses Rectifier during the fight. Resonance Skill damage accounts for about 50 per cent of Yinlin’s total damage.

Encore

Encore is a five-star fusion character who uses Rectifier during the fight. A consultant hailing from the Black Shores, she is a vibrant and spirited individual who delights in sharing her tales of friendship and adventure through whimsical fantasy and fairy tales.

Yangyang

Yangyang is a four-star Aero character and uses a sword during the fight. She is a guiding light and supportive presence in a world that needs healing.

Aalto

Aalto is a four-star Aero character. An enigmatic Information Broker, he is renowned for his elusive demeanour and inviting smile.
