In early 2011, Jackson started dating 15-year-old Amber Wright. Their relationship lasted about three months before things took a turn for the worse. Seath suspected Wright of cheating on him with 18-year-old Michael Bargo. Their break-up was bitter and they continued to argue with each other, not only in person but also on social media. They used Facebook as a battleground for their anger, with insults and accusations flying between them.

Wright soon began dating Bargo and he (Bargo) developed an intense hatred for Jackson. He wrongly believed that Jackson had abused Wright during their relationship. His anger towards Jackson grew and, at one point, Bargo even threatened Jackson, telling his mother that he had “a bullet with Seath’s name on it”. Bargo, who had a history of theft and a fascination with guns, was not just making idle threats. His dangerous fixation on Jackson and violent tendencies would soon culminate in a deadly act.

On the surface, these tensions between Jackson, Wright and Bargo seemed like typical teenage drama but in April 2011, things took a darker turn. Bargo, along with Wright and several of their friends, including Wright’s brother Kyle Hooper, Charlie Ely and Justin Soto, devised a plan to lure Jackson to Ely’s house in Summerfield. The group’s intention was clear: They wanted to kill Jackson.

Wright, knowing that Jackson still had feelings for her, convinced him to come to the house under the pretext of talking things over. Jackson, unaware of the trap set for him, agreed to meet her. When Jackson arrived at Ely’s house, he was ambushed by the group. He was beaten, tied up and shot multiple times by Bargo. The violence did not stop there— Bargo and the others tortured Jackson before finally killing him.

After murdering Jackson, the group attempted to cover up its crime. They burned his body in a fire pit behind the house to destroy the evidence. They then collected what was left of his remains, placed them in paint buckets and dumped the buckets in a nearby quarry.

The crime was discovered when Kyle Hooper, Wright’s brother, confessed to his mother about what had happened. Police quickly launched an investigation and details of Jackson’s gruesome death began to emerge. The group of teens was arrested and during questioning, they turned on each other, each trying to shift the blame. Despite their young ages, the group was held accountable for their actions.

Bargo, who was identified as the ringleader and the one who shot Jackson, was sentenced to death for his role in the murder. Wright, Hooper, Ely and Soto were all sentenced to life in prison for their part in the crime.

Seath Jackson family

Jackson grew up in a close-knit family in Summerfield, Marion County. The Jackson family was deeply affected by Seath’s murder, and their heartbreak was magnified by the brutal nature of his death. His mother was Sonia Jackson and she was vocal in her grief and anger following her son’s tragic death, especially during the trial of his killers. Jackson’s father, Scott Jackson, although less publicly visible in the media, was equally devastated by the loss of his son. The deceased had two older brothers.

Sonia Jackson often expressed how her son’s killers still had the chance to see their own families, while she could never see her son again. The family’s grief was made even more intense by the fact that those responsible for its son’s murder were all teenagers, some of whom Jackson had known personally.
