My aunt’s kids were asking me to get them ice cream because it’s their favourite snack when I just went to watch them. Since sapa had already dealt with me this month, I could not purchase anything, but I vowed to do it the following time. 

I never even considered making ice cream at home since I assumed it would be a tough undertaking that required a lot of time and resources. You can only imagine how shocked I was to learn how simple it is to make ice cream at home. I’m positive that I’m not the only person at this table.

I decided to write this article to save the stress of wasting so much money on good ice cream when you can make the same delicious ice cream at home at less cost.

How to make ice cream at home with just three ingredients

Making ice cream at home only requires three ingredients, and it doesn’t require much stress. Here is how to make ice cream at home;

  • Place the bowl, beaters, condensed milk, and whipping cream in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours (If you live in a hot climate, 24 hours). Freeze an ice cream tray for 12 to 24 hours. For this, metal trays and pans work well. 
  • Pour two teaspoons of vanilla extract and 3/4 to 1 tin of sweetened condensed milk (11 to 14 ounces or 300 to 400 grams) into a mixing bowl. Leave this to stand. Although this step is optional, I prefer to take it.
  • Pour two cups of chilled heavy cream into the chilled bowl.
  • Whip at a low speed to start, then pick it up to a medium speed. Depending on your cream, whip until soft to hard peaks form. It takes between 7 and 8 minutes. Don’t over-whip it; it will get grainy and eventually turn into butter.
  • This whipped cream should be added to the condensed milk in 1 to 2 scoops. 
  • We use this extra step only to make blending simpler. Pour that into the whipped cream. 
  • Without letting the whipped cream lose its volume, gently fold in the condensed milk. 
  • Put this in a container that can be frozen. In order to prevent air from being trapped between the ice cream and the cling wrap, place a piece of parchment paper or cling wrap on top and press down. The ice cream won’t get icy thanks to this procedure. Set it in the freezer for 10 to 12 hours. 
  • Place the container out of the refrigerator for 5 to 7 minutes when you are ready to serve. Serve vanilla ice cream right away after scooping. You can serve it with toppings or plain.

Method #1: Two Ingredient Ice Cream

This process is a recipe unto itself. Simply use an electric or hand mixer to whisk two cups of cream until stiff peaks form. Pour a cold can of sweetened condensed milk in gradually. Add any flavourings or additives you choose. Transfer to a freezer in an airtight container. That’s how easy it is! The directions for making it are the same as those for making ice cream at home.

Squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing a quart-size resealable bag with the ice cream mixture inside. After squeezing out as much air as possible and sealing tightly, put this bag inside another quart bag. Place the bags inside a gallon-sized resealable bag, then add four teaspoons of coarse salt and around four cups of broken ice. The ice cream foundation freezes because the salt lowers the ice’s freezing point, produces an exceptionally cold atmosphere, and absorbs heat.

Remove all of the air and then tightly seal. Before vigorously shaking and massaging the bag, wrap it in a towel or put on gloves. Make sure the ice constantly encircles the ice cream mixture. Shake the container vigorously for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the ice cream is solid. Your ice cream will be smoother the more ferociously you shake it.

Method #3: Freeze & Stir Method

In a large stainless steel baking dish, place the unchurned ice cream recipe mixture, and freeze for 45 minutes. Remove it from the freezer as soon as the edges start to freeze, then mix briskly with a spatula. Going back to the freezer 

Every 30 minutes, keep checking the mixture and stirring briskly as it freezes. Use a hand-held blender or mixer if you have one. Continually do this for two to three hours, or until frozen.
