Dickson Tarkighir, a member of the House of Representatives, has called for legal action against Big Brother Naija All Stars housemate Venita Akpofure and the show’s organisers for allegedly defaming the Tiv nation.

She had said during a chat in the BBNaija house that “Tiv men give their wives to visitors for entertainment purposes.”
Her claim aroused fury among the Tivs, with many advocating for legal action against her.

Venita married Terna Tarka, a Tiv man with whom she had two daughters.
Tarkighir, representing Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency of Benue State, wants the actress and the reality show’s organisers sued for providing her with “the mega platform to defame the Tiv people.”
He posted on Facebook, “#Venita Akpofure – Slam a 10BN defamation suit on her, the Big Brother brand and its promoters, they provided her with the mega platform to defame an entire ethnicity and are equally liable for not disowning her.”
Similarly, a Tiv socio-cultural group, Mzough-U-Tiv, issued a statement condemning her comment.
