Argentina were beaten 2-1 by less-fancied Saudi Arabia in their opening Group C match at the Lusail Stadium.

The South Americans had taken the lead with a tenth-minute Messi penalty to the fans’ excitement in the stadium. They thought they had doubled their lead through Lautaro Martinez in the 28th minute, but the Inter Milan forward’s goal was ruled out for offside.
