Bayern Munich were 2-0 victors over rivals, Barcelona at the Allianz Arena in a Champions League match on Tuesday evening.
It was the first time the Bundesliga giants’ former striker, Robert Lewandowski, would return to Germany after his summer departure.
The Polish forward could not bring his scintillating form in LaLiga to his former homeground as the Bayern defence and dependable keeper, Manuel Neuer, saw that he was well taken care of throughout the encounter.
Defender Lucas Hernandez and forward Leroy Sane grabbed the goals for Bayern in four minutes with the first coming in the 50th minute.
Barcelona had been tipped to get something from the game after heading to the fixture on the back of an impressive form in LaLiga while Bayern had recorded three straight draws in the Bundesliga. However, misses from Lewandowski and a very close shave off the post by Pedri ensured Xavi Hernandez’s men left Bavaria empty-handed.
Bayern sit on top of the table with six points while Barcelona are second with three with a superior goal difference to Inter Milan in third and Viktoria Plzen at the bottom after suffering another defeat to the latter.
Liverpool vs Ajax
Liverpool survived another scare to beat Ajax 2-1 at Anfield. The Reds, passing through a rather rough patch, took the lead via Mohamed Salah in the 17th minute before Mohammed Kudus levelled for Ajax 10 minutes later.
Jurgen Klopp’s men looked destined for another disappointing result. However, Joel Matip sent Anfield roaring in the 89th minute after scoring from Kostas Timikas’ corner to win all three points for the Premier League giants.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid
Bayer Leverkusen ensured another LaLiga side bit the dust in Germany on Tuesday evening as they beat Atletico 2-0.
Atletico thought they were leaving Bay Arena with a point but Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich scored in the 84th minute to put that in doubt. Three minutes later, Moussa Diaby ensured their hopes were dashed and Diego Simeone left red-faced.
Porto vs Club Brugge
A shocking result for the Portuguese heavyweights as visiting Club Brugge shredded them 4-0.
A Ferran Jutgla penalty and goals by Kamal Sowah, Andreas Olsen and Antonio Eromonsele Nordby Nusa were all Club Brugge needed to grab a massive result at the Estadio do Dragao.
Sporting CP vs Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur were handed a 2-0 loss at Sporting.
Antonio Conte’s men could not replicate their Premier League form at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Paulinho and Arthur got the goals in the 91st and 93rd minutes.
Marseille vs Eintracht Frankfurt
The visiting Germans bagged all three points, winning the match 0-1.
Jesper Lindstrom made the difference in the 43rd minute.
