Teniola Apata is a Nigerian singer, composer, and entertainer better known by her stage name Teni The Entertainer.

Biography

Teni was born on December 23, 1992. She is from Ekiti State. She is the ninth child of ten born to Mr. and Mrs. Apata in Lagos. Her father was a retired Brigadier General in Lagos before he was slain in 1995 when she was only two years old.

She is the younger sister of another musician, Niniola. She attended Apata Memorial High School before moving on to American InterContinental University, United States, where she earned a degree in business administration.

She played the drums in the school band when she was younger. She and her brothers were also prevented from leaving the house as children, so they spent all their time singing loudly in the hallway.

Career

Teni joined with Shizzi’s Magic Fingers Records and released her first single, Amen. In 2017, she signed with Dr. Dolor Entertainment after quitting the record company. Following the September 2017 release of the single Fargin, Teni began to rise in popularity. She had her big break after putting out the top singles Askamaya, Case, and Uyo Meyo. Askamaya was 15th in the Top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks of 2018 list compiled by MTV Base.

Teni was highlighted on the February 20, 2019, episode of YouTube Music’s Trending Artist on the Rise. She released the Sugar Mummy video on May 3, 2019, while Power Rangers followed on June 14.

On October 11, 2019, Teni released Billionaire, her self-titled debut EP with six songs, with no guests. It was produced by Pheelz and Jaysynths Beatz.

Teni collaborated with Nigerian DJ Neptune in April 2020 to produce an EP titled Quarantine Playlist, in which she plays through various stages of being in quarantine and discusses the hardships of being on lockdown as a result of the coronavirus epidemic. Production on the four-track EP, which was done by Tempoe, P. Prime, and Dra, is primarily mid-tempo.

Teni disclosed the title and anticipated release date for her upcoming first album on February 2, 2021. This was posted on her Instagram page “Now is the moment… And the record’s working title will be “WONDALAND” — #MARCH2021 #WONDALAND”

WONDALAND was developed in places like London, New York, Orlando, Ondo, Lagos, and Abuja for over two years.

Davido made a guest appearance on the album while Pheelz, Damayo, Tempoe, P.Prime, Millamix, Krizbeatz, and Ozedikus produced it. It was made available for download and online streaming on several music services, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, and Google Play.

Teni received the Most Promising Act to Watch at the 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and Rookie of the Year at the 2018 Headies Awards. At the 2018 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, she was also named Best New Artist. On its list of the 10 Hottest Artists in Nigeria, NotJustOk ranked her eighth. According to Premium Times, she was one of the six Nigerian breakthrough stars and internet sensations of 2018.

Teni inked an endorsement agreement with Cadbury Nigeria’s confectionery brand Tom Tom in March 2019. According to PM News, Teni struck an endorsement agreement with Globacom Nigeria, a major telecommunications company, on October 6, 2020. Other brands that have supported her include Pepsi, Tom Tom, Budweiser, and many more.
