Tems sets new Spotify record for Nigerian female artiste

Only smart men should shoot their shot – Tems gives admirers a hint of her kind of man

Tems, a Grammy Award-winning Nigerian artist, has achieved a new milestone by becoming the most streamed Nigerian female artist on Spotify in a single day.

Her highly anticipated debut album, ‘Born In The Wild,’ was released on Friday, June 7 2024

The album received 5.33 million global streams on its first day, contributing to Tems’ total of 8.028 million streams across all her projects on the platform, setting a record for Nigerian female artists.

The 18-track album, released through RCA Records/Since 93′, features collaborations with Asake on ‘Get It Right’ and J. Cole on ‘Free Fall,’ alongside previously released singles like ‘Me & U’ and ‘Love Me Jeje.’

Other tracks on the album include ‘Born In The Wild,’ ‘Special Baby,’ ‘Burning,’ ‘Wickedest,’ ‘Unfortunate,’ ‘Ready,’ ‘Gangsta,’ ‘Boy o Boy,’ ‘Forever,’ ‘Voices In My Head,’ ‘Turn Me Up,’ ‘T-Unit,’ ‘You In My Face,’ and ‘Hold On.’

This release comes three years after her last EP, ‘If Orange Was a Place.’ Tems gained fame in 2020 with her collaboration with Wizkid on ‘Essence’ and released her debut EP, ‘For Broken Ears,’ the same year.

In February 2023, she won her first Grammy award for ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for her contribution to ‘Wait for U’ by Future featuring Drake. In March 2024, she received a ‘Breakthrough Award’ at the Billboard Women in Music Awards.
