The Super Eagles have experienced a continued decline in the FIFA rankings for the second straight month, as per the latest update released today.
In the previous ranking, Nigeria’s national team fell from 30th to 38th after a draw at home against South Africa and a surprising loss to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers held in early June.

In today’s release, the three-time African champions slipped another spot, now positioned at 39th globally.
Despite the downturn, the Super Eagles managed to stay in the top five teams in Africa, securing fifth place with a narrow lead over Tunisia (1498 points to 1494).

Leading the African rankings is Morocco, placed 14th worldwide, followed by Senegal (19th), Egypt (36th), and Africa Cup of Nations champions Cote d’Ivoire (38th).
In international rankings, Spain, recently crowned European champions, climbed five positions following their Euro 2024 victory, moving from eighth to third.
They are now behind only Euro 2024 semi-finalists France and world No.1 Argentina.
England, having reached consecutive European Championship finals, rose from fifth to fourth, overtaking Brazil, which dropped to fifth.
The top ten is completed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Copa America finalists Colombia, and Italy.
