You are what you digest, not what you eat. Food would not be of any use to us if we simply eat without it being properly digested. If this is true in terms of the physical, it is even more true in terms of the spiritual. Going through some form of spiritual digest has much of an effect on our hearts and lives.

What is spiritual digest?
Nowadays, very few people talk about spiritual digest, even though it is essential to our spiritual development. The Bible frequently refers to it as meditation.
Therefore, spiritual digest refers to individuals meditating on the words of scripture through the reading of the holy scriptures and listening to sermons in silence. It focuses one’s mind for some time, in silence, for spiritual and reflective purposes.
Contrary to what some erroneous forms of meditation claim, engaging in any form of spiritual digest does not empty your mind. Instead, it involves immersing yourself in biblical truths and reaping their benefits by taking the time to apply them to our own lives.
A lot of people cram verses of biblical verses and consume a lot of Christian literature and music, yet the lessons and values contained in the aforementioned publications do not necessarily reflect in the lives of these people. This occurs because just as physical food is not well-digested, the spiritual lives of people are not well-fortified because of a lack of spiritual digest.
Our lifestyle and general health also have an impact on our digestion, so it is not just about what and how we eat. Spiritually, the same is valid. Spiritual indigestion is harmful, just as the physical inability to digest can cause discomfort, thereby resulting in medical issues, illnesses, and fatal diseases.
Scripture meditation, therefore, enables human beings to thoroughly and joyfully listen to and apply the Word to ourselves as well as to one another. Similar to how properly digested food provides the body with the nourishment and energy it needs, meditating on the Word allows us to assimilate it into our hearts, lives, and experiences so that we can put it into practice.
Daily spiritual digest
Just like you have to digest your food daily to be healthy. engaging in spiritual digest is also a daily journey. Here are some tips to maintain a daily spiritual digest.
The lack of proper meditation is the reason why all the sermons we hear do not benefit us more. The same is true of sermons and meals. You must consume the food to be fed; simply having it on the table will not do. Your food must be consumed and then properly metabolized for it to be useful to you. In the same way, absorbing sermons via reflection is more beneficial than simply hearing them.
It will benefit you to reflect on what you hear. Twenty poorly contemplated lectures are not preferable to one sermon that has been thoroughly digested. Little food that is easily absorbed will nourish a man more than a lot of food consumed but not properly digested.
You know that many hours are required to digest a little food eaten in a short while. So, people, particularly Christians, should spend many hours digesting a sermon that they hear.
Digesting God’s promises
To live by Christ’s example, we must concentrate on him constantly. To ensure we obey God’s commands, we must reflect on God. Three doors must be opened for meditation to enter: understanding, the will and affections, and practical living. If not, it is useless.
Like a mother supports a child, understanding strengthens the heart. She cooks meals for the kid. She cuts it into pieces for the kid to consume. Therefore, divine truths are prepared for the heart and affections by the intellect so that the heart may receive, consume, and process them. However, if the mother eats the meat and does not feed the infant, the latter risks going hungry. The most exquisite truths are, therefore, received by the understanding, but if it does not convey them to the heart and affections, it is of no benefit.
