Samuel “Sam” Kristoffer Ymer Skarsgard is a Swedish physician, actor, and production manager from the renowned Skarsgard family. He is the son of actor Stellan Skarsgard and physician My Skarsgard. He has four actor brothers – Alexander, Gustaf, Bill, and Valter – and one sister, Eija.
Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Skarsgard was raised in one of the most iconic acting families in Hollywood. While he was young, he showed traits of becoming a successful actor as he acted in a couple of movies and worked as part of the crew members for some.
But as he grew, he discovered his passion for the medical field and pursued it. He eventually followed in his mother’s footsteps to become a doctor, while most of his siblings pursued a career in the film industry.

Skarsgard started his career as a young actor before branching out into the medical field. Skarsgard followed in his parents’ footsteps, as far as his career is concerned.

According to reports, he works as a physician in a Stockholm hospital.
Speaking about his career, Skarsgard’s elder brother, Alexander, once told The Inquirer that Sam Skarsgard and his mother virtually save lives for a living.
“We’re either actors or doctors. Mom went through medical school while raising six kids and taking care of the household,” he said.
In a conversation with Interview Magazine in 2017, Alexander revealed that Sam works in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Stockholm hospital.
“He works at an ICU so he, on a daily basis, saves lives,” he said.
His immediate younger brother, Bill, during the same conversation, said: “There’s definitely a sense of embarrassment about what it is artists really do, at least for me in terms of acting. We have a mom and a brother who literally save lives.”
Even though Skarsgard is a qualified physician, he has been involved in a few films over the years. In 1987, he appeared alongside his father in the family adventure, Jim & Piraterna Blom.
In 2002, he acted as the body double for his brother, Gustaf, in the fantasy drama The Invisible. In recent years, he has also been a production manager on short films such as Att döda ett barn (2003) and Skuggvärld (2005).

Skarsgard’s family is known in the entertainment industry for their acting talent. Stellan Skarsgard and My Skarsgard are the patriarch and matriarch, respectively, of the Skarsgard family.
Stellan Skarsgard has been a prominent actor for more than five decades, with memorable roles such as “Jan Nyman” in Breaking the Waves (1996), “Prof. Gerald Lambeau” in Good Will Hunting (1997), “Bootstrap Bill Turner” in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007), “Bill Anderson” in Mamma Mia! The head of the Skarsgard family, Stellan, was honoured with the Silver Berlin Bear award for ‘Den enfaldige mördaren’ (1982), Outstanding European Achievement in World Cinema for ‘Amistad’ and ‘Good Will Hunting’ (1998), as well as the 2010 Amanda Awards (Norway) for ‘En ganske snill mann’ (2010).
My Skarsgard, Sam’s mum, is a doctor. She obtained her medical degree in 1978 and reportedly works at a hospital in Södermalm. Skarsgard’s mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1998 but she fought bravely and today, she is a cancer survivor.
Skarsgard parents ended their relationship in May 2007, with speculations that Skarsgard’s parents divorced because of My’s reported alcohol abuse. Two years later, Stellan Skarsgard married Megan Everett, and the couple has two children: Ossian and Kolbjörn.
Of all his siblings, Skarsgard is the only one who has followed in his mother’s footsteps and pursued a medical career. His choice of a different career path has made him the least popular Skarsgard sibling.
Alexander Skarsgard, the eldest of Stellan and My Skarsgård’s children, gained worldwide acclaim for his role as “Eric Northman” in HBO’s hit drama series True Blood (2008-14). Since then, he has had roles in movies such as Melancholia, What Maisie Knew, The Legend of Tarzan and Hold the Dark.
Gustaf Skarsgard, who is Sam Skarsgard’s immediate elder brother, played “Floki” in History Channel’s series Vikings.
Bill Skarsgård, the youngest son of the former couple, is also an actor, with roles in films like The Divergent Series: Allegiant and Atomic Blonde.
