Iwe Pascal Odinaka, popularly known by his stage name Poco Lee, is a renowned Nigerian dancer, promoter, and master of ceremonies.

He became well-known after appearing in Zlatan Ibile’s 2018 Zanku Legwork video. He is one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising hype men and the crooner of the viral Poco dance. 

Poco Lee Biography

Poco Lee, a native of Imo State, was born on October 21, 1996. His father is Kenneth Iweh, and his mother is Augustina. He is the third of five children.

The dancer was a student at the Nigerian Navy Primary School in Ojo, Okokomaiko, Lagos. He had his secondary education at Command Day Secondary School in Ojo Barracks, Lagos. He then continued his studies at Lagos State University (LASU), where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in December 2019.

According to reports, Poco Lee started his dancing, master of ceremonies and hype man careers on the streets of Lagos. He once shared a few dancing tutorial videos online in which he demonstrated new moves.

His biggest break came when he uploaded a video of himself dancing to Legwork and Zanku at an event hosted by Lagos State University (LASU), which earned him a repost from Tunde Ednut on Instagram. The dance pioneer, Zlatan Ibile, noticed the one-minute clip as it spread quickly online and appeared on the pages of several celebrities. He quickly teamed up with him and used him in the Zanku music video.

After his viral dance, he performed in other musicians’ videos. He’s currently one of Nigeria’s top street dancers.

Poco Lee was named “Best Dancer” at the 2019 Naija Hype Awards. He has collaborated with many musicians, including Burna Boy, Gucci Branch, Zlatan Ibile, Davido, Olamide, Naira Marley, Rahman Jago, Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, and Niniola.

Poco Lee has danced on occasions abroad, including; One Africa Music Festival – Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Valentine’s Jamboree Concert in Nairobi, Kenya, and Naira Marley’s concert – at O2 Arena in London.

Controversies

Portable/Poco Lee

On December 21, 2021, Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, an up-and-coming singer, complained bitterly about how Poco Lee was extorting him of the proceeds from his song Zazu, which had become a hit. He said that Poco Lee had stolen his music, taking all the glory and credit for it, adding that the dancer had gone around saying that he was the legal owner of the song while denying him (Portable), who was the actual owner of the tune, the credit and the money from sales.

In July 2022, Poco Lee, a well-known Nigerian dancer, expressed regret over promoting Portable. His name and Olamide, another musician who had helped Portable into the spotlight, are always mentioned whenever the latter gets into trouble. 

Poco Lee wrote on his Twitter page, “I wish I never took that talkative nuisance out of the trenches,” as if he was tired of constantly being associated with the singer’s transgressions.

He recalled that he had added Lee to it to spice it up and that ever since then, everyone has referred to him as Poco Lee.
