Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Stanley Omah Didia, known professionally as Omah Lay, has explained how being locked up in Uganda shifted his perspective on music and freedom.

In December 2020, Tems and Omah Lay were arrested and detained in Uganda for performing at a concert that violated COVID-19 social distancing regulations.

Four years later, in an interview with Amazon Music, the singer has revealed that the experience made him love his freedom so much that he fights for it with every song he puts out.

“After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record. And ever since then, my music has just been about freedom. Everything I made on ‘Boy Alone’ was about freedom,” he said.
The Holy Ghost hitmaker said he does not credit Uganda for locking him up, but the ordeal shifted his perspective about his freedom.
“I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom,” Omah Lay said.
