Obi Cubana was born on April 12, 1975. The location of his birth is unknown, but he hails from Oba, 10.4km from Onitsha.

Educational background

He attended Central Primary School, Oba, where he received his First School Leaving Certificate. He then proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School in Onitsha, where he got his West Africa Senior School Certificate (WAEC).

In 1998, Obi Cubana got admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu state, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.


After he graduated from university, Obi Cubana completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abuja. He made his first million at his place of primary assignment, the National Assembly, while doing his youth service.

According to Obi, he was introduced to the real estate business by a friend who then linked him to someone who wanted to furnish a house. After the job, the satisfied client was gracious enough to give Obi Cubana a cash gift of ₦500,000. This amount excluded the ₦600,000 he made as a profit from the job.

“That was the first N1.1m I made before I joined contract work in Abuja,” he later said.

From there, he laboured his way to the entrepreneurial ladder as he invested heavily in hotels and nightclubs.

In 2006, Obi Cubana started his first club, Ibiza Club in Abuja, to provide leisure and entertainment for fun seekers and nightcrawlers. Following the success of the Ibiza Club, he established the Cubana Group. This hospitality club provided all-around entertainment to fun lovers in 2009. The Cubana Group was first established in Owerri, Imo state. Today, different branches are spread across various states in the country, including Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu.

She runs the KIEK foundation, a non-governmental organisation established to improve the lives of the less privileged children in society by providing quality education, healthcare, nutrition, and a child’s rights governance. She also serves as a director at Casa Cubana Homes, a legal partner at Bryan Michaels & Associates.

The entrepreneur revealed he met his wife while staying in a one-room boys’ quarters in Abuja.
