Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA, played host to the 2022 edition of the award ceremony on Sunday, June 26.

The nominees for the best international act category included Little Simz and Dave, both from the United Kingdom, Dinos and Tayc, both from France, Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of Congo, fellow Nigerian Fireboy DML, Ludmilla from Brazil, and South African Major League DJz, (France).

However, the talented singer, songwriter, and producer emerged victorious in a keenly contested category featuring big names from all over the world.

Interestingly, this was the first international award Tems would receive with her record label, and she dedicated her award to every young woman striving to one day live their dreams.

“Thank you so much for this, thank you so much. It’s an honour. I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something and I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home. Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen,” she said when receiving her award.

Meanwhile, Tems recently postponed her shows scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom after being diagnosed with an inflammation of the voice box called Reflux Laryngitis.

Reflux Laryngitis, according to Medicinenet, is an inflammation and swelling of the larynx (voice box), and it is majorly caused by a backflow of stomach acid up into the esophagus.

Heartburn is the most prevalent symptom of reflux laryngitis. Other symptoms include chronic hoarseness of voice, problems with swallowing, cough, itchy throats, etc.
