What is Mexican candy shot?

A Mexican candy shot is a sweet and spicy cocktail made from a combination of watermelon juice, tequila and hot sauce. The rim of the glass is rimmed with Tajin seasoning. It is sometimes called a Paleta Shot. Paleta means lollipop or popsicle in Spanish. Therefore, a Mexican candy shot is named after a Mexican lollipop.

Mexican candy shot ingredients
- 45 ml tequila (silver or blanco)
- 15 ml watermelon liqueur also known as watermelon schnapps
- 15 ml lime juice
- 1/4 tsp chilli powder or Tajín seasoning
- Lime wedge or watermelon slice
- Ice
- Hot sauce

How to make Mexican candy shot

- First, rim a shot glass with chilli powder or Tajín seasoning. You can do this by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim of the glass and then dipping the rim into a plate with the chilli powder or Tajín seasoning to coat it evenly.
- Fill a shaker with tequila, watermelon liqueur or schnapps, lime juice and just a small dash of hot sauce. Note that the amount of hot sauce depends on how much you can handle. Then add ice into the shaker.
- Shake the contents vigorously for about 15-20 seconds or it is thoroughly mixed and chilled.
- Strain the mixture or cocktail into the prepared shot glass.
- Add a lime wedge or a small slice of watermelon. However, note that this is optional.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the sweet, tangy and spicy cocktail.
