Since his confirmation last month as Rangnick’s permanent replacement, his style of play has been a major talking point.
In his first session with the press at Old Trafford, Ten Hag spoke passionately about competing with city rivals, Manchester City and the season’s runner-up, Liverpool.
While admiring both teams, the Dutchman spoke about putting an end to their era of domestic dominance.

“In this moment I admire them [Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp]. I admire them both. They play, in this moment, really fantastic football – both Liverpool and Manchester City. But you will always see that an era can come to an end. I am looking forward to battling with them and I am sure all the other clubs in the Premier League will want to do that”, he said.
Speaking on how his United side will play, the new United man said, “Maybe you have seen Ajax? I like that.
“It is always players dictating the way of play. I have the idea, I will line up my best team, and I will line up my players like that to get the best out of them, so that they can go to the maximum, that they feel comfortable in the role. And in the end it’s about getting the success together.”
With a few departures expected in the summer, Ten Hag said he looks forward to meeting and working with the players.
“I look forward to working with these players. The season before, this squad was second in the league, so huge potential”, Ten Hag said.
On meeting with the players, Ten Hag said, “No, I don’t speak with the players now, they need a break to reflect. I will speak with the players at the end of June and in the first week of July.”
