Lady challenges views on polygamy, ownership in relationships 1

Nigerian woman, Mewolaka has stirred conversation by asserting that no woman truly “owns” a man and defending the practice of polygamy.

In a social media post, she argued that relationships are not about ownership and emphasized that polygamy is not inherently sinful.

Mewolaka suggested that the notion of ownership in relationships is flawed, pointing out that seeing a partner first does not confer ownership.

“No woman owns a man. Just because he saw you first doesn’t mean he’s bound to you alone,” she stated.

She further argued that polygamy is a personal choice and not a sin, noting that a man’s decision to take on additional wives is a matter of personal preference.

Mewolaka criticised the notion that one should boast about marrying someone when they had nothing, questioning the value of such claims.

“The idea that ‘I married him when he had nothing’ is not only annoying but outdated. It’s as if people think having less is a badge of honour. Now that he’s successful and you’re successful too, bringing in another wife is just part of balancing the equation,” she added.

Her comments have sparked a range of reactions, highlighting ongoing debates about relationship dynamics and polygamy in contemporary society.

Netizens react:

@Unwanna: “This is what happens when the man of the house threatens to take a second wife because the woman he married is seen as a liability and the woman has no other option than accept it because she’s just an option”

@Rossie: “It is shocking that this statement is coming from a woman. It is expected that a man will marry and stick to one woman. They should live happily together and give birth to beautiful kids. Why want more than one wife??😒”

@Abby: “When a woman starts saying things like this, if you dig deep she’s dating someone’s husband and she’s thinking of marrying him. There’s no smoke without fire.”

@Luckygold: “there is scarcity of men, there are not enough men to match the woman population. if everyone man sticks to marrying one wife, there will be a lot of women without husband.”

@Priscilla: “All i see here is a woman with no standards because how can you be so happy to settle with a poor man with a wife already…retard mentality”

@Oluwafemi: “Protect this woman !!! Women who say “I married him when he had nothing “ Are showing they’re very entitled with low IQ because if he had nothing then what did you have that made him who he is today ? What was your contribution to his growth? If it’s nagging and complaining then you’re not well… you knew he had the hunger in him and was going to make it… you just jumped on the train and enjoyed the ride because even as he had nothing he was still providing for you and playing his role the best way he could then.
And now if he decides to have only you in his life then it’s on him.”
