James Parnell Spears

James Parnell Spears, born on June 6, 1952, is a retired construction business owner. He is the father of Bryan Spears, Britney Spears, and Jamie Lynn Spears. James Parnell Spears was born to June Austin Spears (1930–2012) and Emma Jean Spears (née Forbes; 1934–1966). Additionally, he faced a tragic car accident at the age of 17, which claimed the life of a football teammate.

His childhood was challenging, as detailed by his daughter, Jamie Lynn, in her memoir.

“My father was brought up by an abusive father who imposed unreasonable demands on him in all aspects of life. Daddy was compelled to engage in sports for extended periods—beyond the point of exhaustion. Paw-Paw June, for basketball, made Daddy shoot one hundred shots after practice. Although Daddy had a passion for basketball, his father steered him away from the court to the football field. He followed his father’s directive to pursue college football, always aware that he would have made a more significant impact as a basketball player.”

James Parnell Spears’ now

According to recent reports, Spears underwent a leg amputation in November 2023, a development that has only now come to light. Medical professionals made this decision in response to the man’s deteriorating health, stemming from a severe infection in his leg.

Despite undergoing five surgeries in the affected area, Britney’s father’s condition showed no improvement, leaving the medical team with no alternative but to amputate the limb. Such a procedure can have a significant impact on the patient’s emotional well-being, particularly considering additional health challenges.

It was reported that Spears’ health troubles escalated last October when he was urgently admitted to an emergency hospital. His critical condition resulted from an infection exacerbating a pre-existing ailment that had kept him bedridden for an extended period. Notably, Spears had knee surgery 16 years ago, and there have been suspicions for months that the infection may have originated in that same area.

Compounding his health woes, the leg issue led to a significant weight loss of more than 12 kilos and this left him visibly frail. Additionally, Spears has been grappling with a persistent battle against another severe illness, having suffered a colon rupture in 2018 from which he never fully recovered. In recent years, he has been hospitalized on multiple occasions due to kidney problems.
