Horrible Bosses is an American comedy film directed by Seth Gordon and written by Michael Markowitz, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The Horrible Bosses cast includes popular Hollywood actors like Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx.

Horrible Bosses tells the story of three friends who decide to murder their overbearing, abusive bosses. The film premiered in Los Angeles on June 30, 2011, and was released on July 8, 2011. It received positive reviews, especially for the casting. Horrible Bosses was also a hit at the box office, grossing over $28 million in the first three days, reaching number two in the United States during its opening weekend. The film also grossed over $209 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run.

A sequel, Horrible Bosses 2, was released to the cinema on November 26, 2014. However, it did not do as well as the first movie, receiving mixed reviews and grossing $107 million worldwide.

Dale Arbus is a dental assistant who is sexually harassed by his boss. He is a “hopeless romantic” whose life ambition is to become a husband. Although he has made it clear to his boss that he is engaged to be married, the revelation only makes his boss more determined to have sex with him. Meanwhile, Dale cannot leave his job because his name is on a sex offender register and only his boss is willing to hire him.

Kurt is an account manager at a chemical company. He has a great relationship with his old boss, who wanted to hand over the company to Buckman. However, he suddenly dies from a heart attack and his drug-addicted son inherits the company, making work life difficult for Buckman.

Julia is Dale’s sex-addicted boss who is hell-bent on having sex with him, despite his refusal. She tries to blackmail him by threatening to send pictures of both of them in compromising positions to his fiancee. According to Wikipedia, Markowitz intended the role for Aniston, who wore a brown wig for the role, wanting to look different from other characters she had played.

Bobby is Kurt’s new boss, a “corrupt and incompetent jerk who’s in charge of things but has no idea what he’s doing”. He is a drug addict, which explains his weaselly look. Unlike his father, Bobby does not care about the environment and tries to force Kurt to choose between firing two staff of the company or getting fired alongside the staff. Bobby is eventually killed when he is caught having sex with Nick’s boss’ wife.

Kevin Spacey as David “Dave” Harken

Kevin Spacey as David "Dave" Harken

Dave is Nick’s boss, the President of Comnidyne Industries. He is a mean manipulative boss who makes Nick work extra hard for the job of the Vice President of the company in vain. Instead, he announced that he would take on the role in addition to his role as the President of the company. Dave is also a dangerously jealous husband who kills his wife’s lover, Bobby.

Jamie Foxx as Dean ‘Motherfucker’ Jones

‘Motherfucker’ Jones is an ex-convict who Nick, Kurt and Dale mistake to be a hardened criminal due to his appearance. He teaches them how to murder their bosses for a fee. However, it turns out that ‘Motherfucker’ is not as hardened as he seems, only going to jail for pirating movies.

Originally, ‘Motherfucker’ Jones was named “Cocksucker Jones” but the name was reportedly changed on Foxx’s request because he felt it “was over the line”.

Julie Bowen as Rhonda

Rhonda is Dave Harken’s wife. She is flirty with other men, which has been described as intentionally making her husband jealous.
