‘Hip-hop is dead’: Netizens fault Skales for debating Wizkid’s two-year-old comment 1

Nigerian rapper and singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known by his stage name Skales has responded to Wizkid’s comment that “hip-hop is dead”.

In an interview with Hip-TV, Skales explained that everyone has their own opinion, and while Wizkid believes hip-hop is dead, he thinks everything has its time and season. He believes that music trends come and go, and what’s popular today may not be by tomorrow.

Skales emphasized that you can’t really say something is dead; it just may not be its time anymore.

He used the example of how rap is popular today, but soon it could be Afrobeats or another music genre. So, he doesn’t think hip-hop is dead, just that the excitement for it has shifted elsewhere. Skales pointed out that nothing is meant to last forever, including music trends.

Netizens in the comment section believed that it was too late for Skales to be responding since Wizkid made the statement over 2 years ago.
