Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was the hero as his side beat Newcastle United 2-1 in a Premier League encounter at St James’ Park on Sunday.

The Reds were reduced to 10 men after captain Virgil Van Dijk was given his marching orders after appearing to foul Alexander Isak in the 28th minute. The Dutch defender appeared to win the ball from Isak, who was through on goal, but referee John Brooks thought otherwise. It was his first sending-off in 177 league appearances.
Newcastle were ahead before the red card through Anthony Gordon’s 25th-minute goal. The former Everton forward latched onto Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mistake and put the ball beyond Alisson Becker in the Liverpool goal.
The Brazilian goalkeeper would then keep Liverpool in the game by miraculously turning Miguel Almiron’s shot onto the woodwork in the first half, the forward also hitting the post after the break.

Nunez came on in the 77th minute and proved to be a valuable addition to the Reds’ side.

The Uruguayan ran through to rifle a shot past Newcastle keeper Nick Pope with nine minutes left, then took Mohamed Salah’s pass in his stride three minutes into stoppage time before applying an equally emphatic finish to give Liverpool a stunning win.
