Brighton & Hove Albion handed Premier League newcomers Luton Town a 4-1 beating in their first match of the season on Saturday afternoon at the American Express Community Stadium.
Brighton debutants, Joao Pedro and Simon Adingra, marked their debuts with a goal each in a comfortable victory over the visitors.
Solly March headed in after 35 minutes before Pedro, signed for a club-record fee of around £30 million from Watford, scored a second-half penalty following a foul by Luton captain Tom Lockyer.
The Hatters pulled a goal back with nine minutes remaining when last season’s top scorer Carlton Morris converted another penalty – awarded for handball against Lewis Dunk – but 21-year-old Ivorian Adingra sealed the Seagulls’ win by slotting home after a bad mistake from Luton’s Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu.
Eighteen-year-old Ireland international Evan Ferguson then tapped in Pervis Estupinan’s cross in stoppage time to cap an impressive start to the campaign for the home side.
The Hatters’ last match in the top flight came in 1992 before the Premier League rebrand.
Everton vs Fulham
Fulham recorded a slim 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park. Although the Toffees had several chances to win the game, wasteful finishing cost them three valuable points.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid got the all-important goal in the 73rd minute.
AFC Bournemouth vs West Ham United
Jarod Bowen scored for West Ham United in the 51st minute before Dominic Solanke levelled for the Cherries in the 82nd minute.
Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace
Odsonne Edouard was the match-winner for Palace as the match ended 1-0 at Bramall Lane.
