Gabriel Martinelli thought he had put Mikel Arteta’s men ahead in the 19th minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) adjudged Eddie Nketiah as offside in the buildup to the goal.

The Brazilian winger was later substituted for Leandro Trossard after he went down injured in the 24th minute.

The Belgium winger then scored the winning goal in the 69th minute.

Everton, lacklustre for the most part of the game, had some half chances but did not scare Raya, who made his Arsenal debut.
