Ebuka Obi-Uchendu is a lawyer and reality television host. He is popularly known as the reality TV show Big Brother Naija host. He is also the talk show host of Rubbin Minds.

Biography

Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu was on 14 July, 1982 in Benin City, Edo State. He is, however, from Anambra state. He is the third child of four children.

His father is a banker, while his mum is a nurse. He completed his nursery and primary education at the Mid-Western School in Benin; he passed his Common Entrance Examination into secondary school as early as Primary Four. He and his family then relocated to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He completed his secondary education at Christ The King College in Abuja, graduating in 1997, before enrolling at the University of Abuja, where he studied till 2004. He then went to the Nigerian Law School Bwari in Abuja, where he graduated in 2005. After a five-year break, he returned to school. He graduated in December 2010 with a Master of Laws degree from the Washington College of Law, United States, with specializations in Intellectual Property and Communications Law from the Law and Government program.

Career

Aside from reality television, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was announced as the new host of Rubbin’ Minds, a Nigerian television chat program, in 2013.

Banky W., Gbenga Sesan, Seun Kuti, Oluchi Onweagba, Davido, Japheth J. Omojuwa, and Chika Unigwe are Nigerian youth stars he has interviewed.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu joined Lamide Akintobi and Zainab Balogun as co-hosts of The Spot, a DStv television show, in 2013.

In July 2014, He joined Arit Okpo as a co-host on the new EbonyLife TV’s Naija Politics, a political show.

He became the host of Men’s Corner, Nigeria’s first all-male TV chat program, in July 2016.

Ebuka was confirmed as the new host of Big Brother Naija in 2017. He has been the show’s host for four years.

In 2018, Soundcity Africa confirmed Ebuka as the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival host, which was televised in collaboration with Coca-Cola, 9mobile, and UBA.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu is currently a counsellor on the popular TV show, Judging Matters, which deals with marital difficulties through the arbitration system and smaller situations of actual individuals receiving justice through a small claims court. Judging Matters is overseen by Justice Olusola Williams, a retired but well-experienced Lagos State Judge. It premiered on DStv’s Africa Magic Showcase Channel 151 on April 27, 2020.

Ebuka’s extensive experience allows him to serve as Master of Ceremonies at various award ceremonies.

Ebuka Big Brother Naija

He was one of the final 14 housemates on the first season of Big Brother Nigeria in 2006, finishing eighth. He is one of the most successful BBN housemates. He was named the host of both the second and third seasons of Big Brother Naija in January 2017.

He won sponsorship arrangements with a major telecommunications brand and a popular brewing company after the reality show in 2006. As a result, he hosted Friend or Foe on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the GLO Show, and NTA and Guinness’ Greatness TV. He also wrote for magazines such as What’s New and Ace Magazines and had a weekly column called Contrast with a Nigerian national daily newspaper, This Day, for almost four years.

Family

Ebuka announced his engagement to Cynthia Obianodo, a human resources manager, on April 15, 2015, in Lagos. Their wedding took place in Abuja on February 6, 2016. They had a daughter on November 8, 2016. They announced their second child’s arrival on Instagram in 2018.

Controversies

Ebuka has had his share of controversies. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the host of Big Brother Naija, in 2018, stated that controversial housemate Cee-C insulted him on the reality program.

Cee-C claimed he was her role model and wanted to follow in his footsteps, but she changed her mind after he questioned her on the live program, according to Ebuka.

He stated that he was slightly offended when he confronted her about her assertion that other housemates were not on her level.

It was also rumoured that Cee-C and Ebuka were romantically involved in the past. He came out to trash the rumour stating that he never dated her.

In the 2019 season of the Big Brother Naija, Ebuka trended on Twitter when he stated that Tacha’s response to his question was ignorant and not smart.
