Desmond Oluwashola Elliot, popularly called Desmond Elliot for short, is a Nigerian actor, director, and politician. He has appeared in over 200 films and a number of television episodes and soap operas.


On February 4, 1974, Desmond Elliot was born in Olowogbowo, Lagos Island, to a Yoruba father and a mother from Illah, Oshimili North, Delta State. He attended Air Force Primary School and then St John’s College in Jos, the Plateau State capital. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lagos State University in 2003.


Desmond Elliot was persuaded to pursue acting by a buddy. He began his acting career by appearing in soap operas such as Everyday People, One Too Much, and Saints and Sinners. He is a leading actor in Nollywood, having acted in over 200 films such as Men Who Cheat, Yahoo Millionaire, and Atlanta. In 2006, he was nominated for an African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in the film Behind Closed Doors, for which he received a nomination.

Desmond Elliot co-produced and co-directed the film Reloaded in 2008, which garnered three African Movie Academy Award nominations in 2009. He was nominated for the Nigeria Entertainment Awards’ Best Actor category in 2009 and 2010.

In addition to acting, the actor is also a businessman. He is the founder of Denziot Productions.

Desmond Elliot politics

Desmond Elliot announced his desire to run for the Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress in September 2014. In the April 11, 2015 general elections, he ran for and won the Surulere Constituency. Desmond Elliot was extensively condemned in October 2020 during the EndSARS demonstration for supposedly backing an Anti-Social Media Bill in Nigeria, an allegation he disputed when the news first broke on social media.

He was shown in a viral video angrily condemning social media users and influencers and claiming that if the Nigerian government does not control social media, it would destroy the Nigerian government.

Nigerians did not take his statements lightly on social media, and he was mocked. The na Desmond Elliot cause am joke became trendy and he was forced to apologise a few days later for his statement.

Desmond Elliot, has, despite the criticism, won a ticket to contest for a third term.

Desmond Elliot married Victoria Elliot almost two decades ago on Christmas Day of 2003. They have four children together. In 2018, they marked 15 years of marriage.

Victoria met her spouse while studying Mathematics at the University of Jos. She currently owns and operates a company that deals with the sales and marketing of Nollywood films. She and her spouse also co-own Denziot Productions, a producing firm.

The talented actor has been nominated and has won several awards like the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Best Supporting Actor. In 2011, he was named a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
