Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, is an American media personality, television star and former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete. Born on October 28, 1949, in Mount Kisco, New York, Jenner’s life has been marked by remarkable achievements, personal struggles and a groundbreaking transition that has made her one of the most famous transgender individuals in the world.

Growing up, Jenner faced challenges, such as dyslexia, but found solace in sports and excelled in various disciplines like water skiing, football, basketball and track. After accepting a football scholarship to Graceland College in Iowa, a knee injury forced him to switch to track and field. It was here that Jenner’s coach, L.D. Weldon, recognised his potential and encouraged him to train for the Olympic decathlon.

Jenner’s decathlon career took off in 1970 with a fifth-place finish at the Drake Relays. Over the next six years, he honed her skills and this culminated in a gold medal and world record-breaking performance at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where he scored 8,634 points in the decathlon. This achievement cemented Jenner’s status as an “all-American hero”.

After his Olympic success, Jenner transitioned into a career in television, appearing in various movies and shows, and as a Playgirl cover model. In 1991, he married Kris Jenner and the couple had two daughters, Kendall and Kylie. From 2007 to 2021, Jenner starred in the popular reality series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, featuring his stepchildren from Kris’s previous marriage: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob Kardashian.

In April 2015, Jenner publicly came out as transgender in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer on “20/20”. He stated that he identifies as a woman and began using female pronouns. On June 1, 2015, Jenner announced her new name, Caitlyn, on Twitter and graced the cover of Vanity Fair‘s July issue, photographed by Annie Leibovitz.

Jenner’s transition was met with widespread media attention and support from her family. She starred in the reality series “I Am Cait”, which focused on her gender transition. She has been a prominent advocate for transgender rights, although her views have been criticised by some LGBTQ+ activists.

In 2021, Jenner ran as a Republican candidate in the California gubernatorial recall election, finishing 13th with one per cent of the vote. Six months after the election, she was hired by Fox News as an on-air contributor.
