Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has received seven nominations for the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The self-proclaimed African Giant shares the third-most nominations alongside DJ Khaled, after Drake with nine nominations and Cardi B and 21 Savage, who both have 12 nominations.

Burna Boy is the first African artist to be nominated for Artiste of the Year at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. He will compete against Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, 21 Savage, Drake, Cardi B, and others in this category.

His other nominations include Song of the Year – “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” ft. 21 Savage, Best Hip-Hop Video – “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” ft. 21 Savage, Best Collaboration – “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” ft. 21 Savage, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Hustler of the Year.

No Nigerian rapper has been nominated in the Best International Flow category since its inception in 2019.

Notable nominations in the Best International Flow category included Ghana’s Black Sherif, Zambia’s Sampa The Great, and South African rappers K.O and AKA.

The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards will be held on Tuesday, October 3, in Atlanta, United States, and will air on BET one week later, on Tuesday, October 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
