The Academic Staff Union of Universities has reportedly suspended its eight-month-old strike.
The PUNCH authoritatively confirmed the new development after its correspondent spoke to a member of ASUU executive, who said, “Yes, it has been called off.”
This news comes after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at ASUU secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.

However, there is no official statement from the union yet; the academic body is expected to release an official announcement later today.
Recall that the academic union embarked on strike some 8 months ago on Monday, February 14, 2022, to protest the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement it reached with the Federal Government.
A series of meetings were held between these periods, but ASUU remained adamant that it wasn’t returning to the classrooms.
The Federal Government approached the court to obtain an injunction that compelled ASUU to resume their duty post, but the academic body fought back in court.
