Tems becomes first Nigerian artiste to receive Oscar nomination 1

Popular Nigerian artiste, Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, has received an Oscar nomination for her songwriting work on Lift Me Up.

She was nominated in the Best Original Song category in the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12 in Los Angeles. One of the soundtracks for Marvel’s blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever featured Lift Me Up.

This is a significant honour for the singer as she is the first Nigerian artiste to achieve this feat. Many Nigerians are delighted about Tems’ recent nomination because it comes only a few days after well-known rapper Snoop Dogg requested to collaborate with her.

Tems’ creativity as a songwriter on Lift Me Up one of the songs for Black Panther, earned her a nomination for an award. Other co-writers include Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, and Ryan Coogler.
