Big Brother Naija has, year after year, provided a gigantic publicity platform for the contestants, popularly known as housemates, to showcase themselves. One of such persons is Angel J.B. Smith, who continues to utilise the exposure provided by the platform to make a name for herself.
Angel – as she is popularly referred to – became one of the most talked about ladies in the show’s history from the beginning of her stay in the house till the end. So, who is this lady who courted controversy from several quarters even though she hates confrontations?
Biography
Angel Agnes “John-Bavariash” Smith was born on 13 February 2000 to London-based parents. She is from the Efik tribe in Akwa Ibom State, situated in the South-South region of Nigeria.
She spent much of her teenage and childhood years in Lagos State. She attended Marywood Girls’ College, Lagos, a private school, for her secondary school education. She got admission into the University of Lagos but dropped out after only two weeks in school. During the two weeks, she attended no lectures. She revealed that she dropped out of school without her parents’ consent. Her mother later enrolled at British Lighthouse Foundation College to study Mass Communication, but once again, she dropped out and discontinued her studies.
Angel is a dark-skinned woman who is 5 “6 feet tall. She has about 11 tattoos, including a red dragon, two nipple piercings and one nose piercing. Her hobbies include writing poetry, watching movies and sleeping. She describes herself as a feminist.

Career
Angel is a writer, poet and content creator. According to her, she discovered her love for writing at the age of 14. Writing, she said, helped as a means of escape from the mental challenges she encountered at the time. She noted that she has been in and out of depression since she was a teenager, adding that she began self-harming at 14 years old due to her difficulties.
After discovering her talent, she has groomed herself to become a more excellent writer. She specialises in writing poetry and invested her time in improving her art, particularly her rhythmic qualities of language, to enable her to develop a concentrated imaginative awareness in telling stories.
Angel also has a passion for storytelling, which has prompted her to delve into the writing and production of movies. To harness her creative writing career, the reality TV star got freelancing jobs to help her build her ideas. As a result, she subsequently landed writing gigs, which is her main source of income.
The writer has had several books published in her name and several poetic pieces published online. She has garnered many readers who react and comment on her poems, short novels and other creative pieces published on her social media accounts and other websites.
BBNaija
Angel was the first female housemate to enter the house on day two of the sixth season of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), entitled: “Shine Ya Eye”. Angel and her fellow female contestants entered the house the second day following the twist of a double launch weekend introduced by the organisers.
Angel caused a stir, became a national sensation and trended virally on social media on the day she entered the house due to what she wore for the show’s premiere. She wore a cloth that revealed her saggy breasts, becoming the centre of attraction for viewers. During her grand entrance on stage, she also revealed she has about 11 tattoos and three piercings. She claimed that her unique fashion style is greatly misunderstood by people, causing people to misjudge her.
She entered the house and got jovial with her fellow contestants. However, she forged a reputation for detecting perceived deception and greatly frowned at such an act. Also, even though the show is about a limited number of youths taking part in a “social experiment”, Angel was keen on housemates respecting her private space and made anyone who violated her space feel her wrath.
Because of her outstanding beauty and her jovial nature, she was found attractive by her male housemates. First on the list was Sammie, who chased her in the early weeks of the show in a bid to woo her. Both she and Sammie were good friends for a while until she decided to cut him loose due to his constant asking out of her.
The next male housemate who showed interest in her was Yousef, which happened towards the middle of the show. However, unlike Sammie, Yousef was not aggressive in his wooing agenda but subtly communicated his feelings to her. He tried chasing her for about two weeks, but he remained unsuccessful till when he was evicted from the house.
The next male housemate that tickled Angel’s fancy was Cross. This was probably the most significant of all the affairs she was involved with in the house. They both had a symbiotic connection, as they liked themselves and connected. Indeed, in the early weeks of the show, Cross indicated an inkling of his like for her but stepped back when Sammie was attempting to pave the way for himself.
Cross and Angel, however, became chummy from the middle of the show. While they did not get under the sheet to do the business, they were practically close and were in each other’s spaces for the longest time. They had serious conversations about everything and anything, either about the house or life outside the house. However, as the show was coming to an end, she kept her distance from him and explained that she did that to avoid getting attached to him.

Angel was temperamental while in the house, and she had a lot of altercations with fellow housemates for various reasons. Her major arguments included confrontations with Sammie, Boma and Angel. Like Pere, Angel survived a very tricky and harrowing eviction show in the final elimination week to book a spot in the show’s final.
It was indeed a difficult situation for the poet as she had the least number of votes for the final elimination week (of course, she did not know) and had to complete the prototype construction task assigned to her by Big Brother to have a chance of making the final.
Fortunately for her (and to the surprise of Biggie) and the viewers, she completed the task before Pere. With her finishing the task before Pere, who had a higher number of votes than her, the organisers were prompted to, for the first time, admit six people, including her, for the show’s finale.
The writer stayed in the house until the final day and finished on the show as the fourth runner-up (fifth position). Despite not winning the grand prize, she won tasks both on an individual and collective level in the house, with some of them accompanied by cash prizes.
Family
As earlier mentioned, Angel was born in the year 2000 to her parents, who were majorly London-based individuals at the time of her birth. Her father is Baron Meyagy, an entertainment event manager, while her mother is Titilala Brownsugar, half-Ghanaian and half-Nigerian.
Her parents are not married at the moment.
In terms of her relationship, she talked about how she lost her boyfriend to death in 2019 at 19 and how the development took a toll on her mental health. According to her, she is not emotionally and psychologically ready to be committed to a serious relationship until she recovers from the death of her late boyfriend.
However, during the BBNaija Reunion aired in June 2022, Angel claimed to be in a relationship with a man. She declined to disclose his identity.
Net worth
This may be difficult to determine because the former housemates do not fully disclose their financial status in public for obvious reasons.
However, it can be deduced that Angel is currently smiling to the bank, following the endorsement deals he has inked after coming out of the BBNaija house.
